[He turns off the filter and starts a voice broadcast, which begins with a weary, exasperated sigh.]

Well, it could have been worse, I suppose…

[Guess who's thinking really hard about the draft? Yes, it's Luceti's non-existent information dealer. He's sitting at his desk, staring at the Oresoren doll that Stella had made for him for his birthday. After a moment, he picks it up and shoves it under the desk. Hopefully it'll be safe there while he's gone…]

[And now for a friendly public announcement.]

Tomorrow I'll be joining the others who are being drafted to meet the Third Party in battle. For those who are going to battle, try not to die out there. But please make sure to leave your wills in the village, just in case. And for those remaining in the village, please try not to screw things up while we're gone.

[Yes, he's that optimistic. Or perhaps it's just a really sick joke. One never knows.]

[Action]

[To take care of a few final errands, Jay heads for the clothing shop to pick up a new outfit – identical to the one he normally wears – without the slots in the back. He's decided that he doesn't want to keep his wings exposed for the battle. After that, one may catch him jogging around the village perimeter, or practicing his combat style at the barracks.]

I find it interesting that the experiments that have happened since I've been here have been less…severe than the ones that occurred in the past. I'm curious as to whether it could mean that the Malnosso are making some sort of progress in their research. But then again, after what happened last November, it would seem that they still have a long way to go.

Either that, or they need a new chairman.

And it certainly doesn't help that the Third Party is making things generally difficult for all of us. I suppose it's pointless to worry about them within the barrier, but we do need to be prepared for when the Malnosso call us to battle again.

...

…Sephiroth's room is empty. Could this mean that he's been sent home?

[It was hard not to notice when he lived only a few doors down.]

According to Miss Sage's guide, it seems that it may be possible for anyone to learn different kinds of magic from the Filial spirits. I hadn't given it much thought, as I'm quite comfortable with my own abilities. However, it would be beneficial to expand my abilities, to cover the bases that I lack.

For example, it's come to my attention that Aku is only vulnerable to the light or "holy" element. Therefore, learning the magic from Hyt would be useful…so it's unfortunate that he is also the most difficult spirit to contact. It's not surprising, really. Light is different from any other element, as it's usually associated with a divine figure of sorts. Learning how to heal would also be useful…but because it doesn't work outside the barrier, it'd be useless when fighting the Third Party.

These Filial spirits…are they worth it?

And trying to teach non-combatants how to fight…will that be worth it? Unless they happen to be extremely fast learners, I don't see it working out.

[Action]

[Jay can be found sitting against the back of the C3 building. It's pouring rain, but the tall building mostly keeps him dry…mostly. He's staring up at the sky, remaining as still as possible, listening for any sort of spirit. Unfortunately, he's not exactly sure what he's supposed to listen for. All he hears is the pelting of the rain, and the loud cracking of thunder.]

I'm sure everyone has heard the recent Malnosso announcement. Many of us know that the Third Party is capable of cooperation. Therefore, we should learn some cooperation ourselves if we're going to stand a chance.

And so I'd like to gather some information on battle prowess. Knowing everyone's basic battle capabilities will enable us to cooperate more effectively on the battlefield. So I'd like the volunteers to fill out this short form.

Please include those who will exclusively provide rear support, such as healing and other tasks. They are just as important as those fighting on the front lines.

I'm beginning to dislike this holiday.

[OOC: Yes, Jay is affected and up for grabs.  Oh, and don't worry about gender.  I'm up for either.]

Now there's a woman wandering around sucking people's energy? As if Kefka and Yuber can't cause enough chaos around here. I would ask, "Can't we all just get along," but I already know the answer to that.

[Action]

[Jay can be found in the plaza, just observing the people around him. He's not staring at anyone in particular. He's just glancing as they walk by, carrying on their day-to-day business. Anyone who looks closer might see that he's looking a bit pale. Indeed, he is feeling something spreading through his bloodstream, although he has yet to notice any other symptoms. Surely it's just the consequences of staying outside during the blizzard…right?]

[Jay is sitting in his bedroom, looking over the map and housing information brochure that he'd obtained from the Welcome Center. Today, he just feels like jotting down a series of random mundane thoughts.]

Well, the village sure is larger than I thought it would be. And the barrier itself is even larger than I imagined.

The person named "Sephiroth" lives just down the hall from me. That is an unsettling thought. I haven't met him yet, but still...

I did meet Walter, though. He's just as unpleasant as I remember him. How can even his fellow Radiant get along with him with a personality like that?

I haven't kept in much contact with my Legacy companions since I've been here. I don't know what to say to them anymore, really. I feel myself drifting apart from them...

I wonder if Asch has chosen a name for his "mystery drink" at the bar?

I should apologize to John the next time he appears. "Insulting" him was unintentional, but I was ignorant. Since I've obtained more information about him, Luceti, and the Malnosso, I know better now.

There are other things on my mind that I can't write in these journals. I feel...uneasy.

So that thing that attacked me in the amusement park is known as "The Hunter." Apparently the description alone wasn't enough to ring a bell. I found it hard to believe that I was the only one who encountered it. But it seems there were others who were attacked, and even injured that night. I suppose I should consider myself lucky to escape from it unscathed, although I don't like to rely on such a thing. After all, it was my strategy that enabled me to detain it just long enough to gain some running distance. However, since it stopped pursuing me after I left the parameter, perhaps I truly was "lucky." It certainly wasn't an easy feat for me.

I'm also concerned about the voice I recently heard over the journals. Someone was dying by someone else's hand...could that be another Malnosso experiment?

My apologies...I've just been using the journals to communicate with everyone here without even properly introducing myself. I'm so well-known in my own world that I often forget to do so.

My name is Jay, and I come from a ship known as the Legacy. My job is gathering information, and I also help form effective strategies. I am also trained as...a ninja, so I can hold my own in battle. The speed, stealth, and strategies are skills I employ to gather information.

I want to thank everyone who has helped me so far, especially Yuan, Alexei, and Terra. And I'd also like to thank Raine Sage for the guide. The information within was indeed disturbing, but it helps to know the situation that I've been forcefully brought into.

Please feel free to contact me if you need my skills.

I snuck out of the Halloween ball early, only to be attacked by...something. It was too dark too see it, but my senses felt it was something muscular and humanoid. It was very strong, and very quick, and stabbing his forehead with my dagger didn't even kill it. It pursued me relentlessly, primarily trying to rip off my wings. It took everything I had to escape from it, but fortunately, I was able to outsmart it by getting it stuck in a few areas of the park, buying me time to flee. As frightening as it was, it is good to know that I can still hold my own here.

What was that thing?

When I woke up, the amusement park was gone without a trace. On the floor next to my bed was a doll. An Oresoren doll...

[[OOC: I was going to write the action scene in the log, but then decided not to bother...]]

There's been a dog barking most of the night. I didn't pay much attention to it, but now that I'm up, I notice something out there...some kind of strange structure. I've never seen anything like it where I come from.

Also, someone spoke to us through the journals, as I'm sure most, if not all of you have seen. He said something about "indulging ourselves," which I assumed he was referring to that structure. I suspected that he may have been a Malnosso, but when I inquired about it, he just treated it as an insult. It confused me, because if it was true, then it wouldn't have been an insult. But there is the possibility that I was mistaken. So if anyone could clear that up for me, I'd appreciate it. Whatever the case, he doesn't appear to be very trustworthy...

And can anyone tell me about that structure out there?

All right...now that I've somewhat settled into this situation, I need to analyze what I've learned so far.

I woke up in this place wearing white shirts. Strangely enough, I now have wings on my back. The wings still ache, but I'm told that the pain will pass after some time. Perhaps I should sleep until then.

Upon arriving in the village, I was given a guide that explains about the situation, and about this world in general. This place is called Luceti, and we were all brought here by the "Malnosso." At this point, no one seems to know who or what the Malnosso are. Considering that the Malnosso apparently brought us here to conduct experiments on us, I doubt they are human. But on the other hand, I have noticed that not all of the subjects in Luceti are human either.

The village seems to be a perfect paradise. There is no concept of money, so everything is provided for us free of charge. Despite having my normal clothes taken, I was surprised to see my exact clothes in the clothing shop. I also found my daggers in the weapon shop. I'm curious as to why they would allow us to have weapons here. However, no matter how luxurious, a cage is still a cage. So I can't say this makes me happy.

I have spoken with a few people since I've been here. I was surprised to see Senel, Shirley, and Stella here...Stella especially. I remember she had died in the Legacy, so she might have been brought here from a point before her death. It also makes me concerned for Senel...was he brought here from before Stella's death as well? I was also told that Walter is here, but I haven't seen him yet.

I also spoke with a few people I hadn't met before. Well, not very many have introduced themselves, however. I did meet a man named Alexei. He's been helpful, but I'm still wary about trusting strangers. He appears to be a noble of some kind, and one can never be too careful around nobles. Some of them abuse their authority, and even those with the best intentions can let the nobility go to their heads. So I'm especially wary around nobles or military people.

I also met a woman named Martel at the Welcome Center. It was dark and stormy that night, but she treated me with kindness. The Welcome Center was built to assist the newcomers, or "New Feathers" as they're called here. Once I get settled in, I may volunteer here, to provide information. I'd still like to collect more information on the Malnosso, and more importantly, search for a way home. It seems impossible right now, but I won't give up. Something is bound to happen sooner or later that may yield some clues. So in the meantime, I suppose I'll just have to live here and be prepared to defend against whatever "experiments" the Malnosso try to conduct on me...
