Unbelievable…I've been stuck in this place for a whole year now. A whole year. A whole year without my—

[He trails off, whispering softly to himself.]

They've probably forgotten about me by now. No…they wouldn't do that. They've always waited for me. If only there was a way to get home…or at least to let them know that I'm okay, and that I haven't forgotten about them… I don't want to keep them worried…

[Yes, he misses his otters that much.]

[Action]

[Later on, as he emerges from C3, it doesn't take him long to notice the Battle Dome just south of his building.]

But, from what I managed to gather, it seems to be for combat training.

I know it wasn't there last week. I may have only been here a month, but I would have noticed this.

[If Jay starts heading for the Dome, Giles will trail after]

That sort of thing happens a lot. Shortly after I arrived here, a carnival appeared overnight for a few days, and then disappeared just as quickly. So you can expect that sort of thing here.

[And yes, Jay will begin to head to the Dome.]

Couldn't really puzzle it out, myself, but I'm sure it can't be that hard.

[Jay enters the dome, looking around curiously. He walks to one of the room and stares at the console. Oh great, computers.]

Does this have any instructions?

[Yep. Computers. You have just encapsulated Giles' reaction to the building] Not that I could find. But I'll help you look.

[Looking around, looking around, but otherwise not touching the console until he figures out how to use it.]

[Giles follows Jay's lead. He's not going near that console until he has an instruction manual in hand. Eventually, however, he finds it stuffed behind a cabinet]

[And Jay moves to Giles' side to look through the manual along with him. What's it say?]

[Giles flips through it] Three different ways of using the controls, that's good...

[He pauses]

Holograms? Actual holograms?

True enough. [He hasn't actually been by the barracks, so...

He reads a bit longer, and then passes it to Jay] See if you can set something up.

[Looking at the manual and pressing buttons on the console now. He programs a monster and a field to play in, then steps back.]

That should do it. Are you coming in, too?

[He shrugs] If you don't mind.

That's fine. [As long as Giles doesn't get in his way.]

Can you fight?

Yes, I can. Barring the fun last week, however, I haven't had much cause to since arriving here.

[Fortunately, there are some practice weapons in the console room. Giles grabs a staff]

[Now he's curious. He pulls his dagger from his pocket, then strokes the edge of the blade carefully with his index finger before returning it to his pocket.]

Very well, let's go.

[Jay steps into the chamber, simulating an open green field. Just ahead, a brown bear-like creature stands on its hind legs, waving its massive claws about.]

[Giles follows Jay, regarding the bear curiously] Well, isn't that big.

You take one side and I'll take the other?

This is one of the most common monsters that exist in my world, the Egg Bear.

That sounds effective enough.

[Jay circles to one side of the bear, hands still in his pockets. He smirks at the feeling pulsing through him. It feels just like home. Yes, he's going to like this battle dome.]

[For Giles, however, fighting in such a wide open space is...strange. He's used to crowded cemeteries and dark alleys. He's also not used to fighting something quite so big]

[Still. He circles around to the other side, ready to lash out with the staff as soon as he gets close enough.]

[Jay slowly inches closer to the bear from his side. The bear has its attention on Giles as he draws closer, and then it takes a swing at him with its claws...]
