According to Miss Sage's guide, it seems that it may be possible for anyone to learn different kinds of magic from the Filial spirits. I hadn't given it much thought, as I'm quite comfortable with my own abilities. However, it would be beneficial to expand my abilities, to cover the bases that I lack.

For example, it's come to my attention that Aku is only vulnerable to the light or "holy" element. Therefore, learning the magic from Hyt would be useful…so it's unfortunate that he is also the most difficult spirit to contact. It's not surprising, really. Light is different from any other element, as it's usually associated with a divine figure of sorts. Learning how to heal would also be useful…but because it doesn't work outside the barrier, it'd be useless when fighting the Third Party.

These Filial spirits…are they worth it?

And trying to teach non-combatants how to fight…will that be worth it? Unless they happen to be extremely fast learners, I don't see it working out.

[Jay can be found sitting against the back of the C3 building. It's pouring rain, but the tall building mostly keeps him dry…mostly. He's staring up at the sky, remaining as still as possible, listening for any sort of spirit. Unfortunately, he's not exactly sure what he's supposed to listen for. All he hears is the pelting of the rain, and the loud cracking of thunder.]

But you're implying that you'll something sinister. You've threatened me several times, and if you carry it out, you'll be in Luceti's "bad list" with Aku and Yuber. You certainly don't want that, now do you?

It wouldn't be the first time someone misunderstood me and my work.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
So you kill people for a living?

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, no. That's a horrible way to put it.

I sing them to their eternal slumber - there's no money exchanged. It's what I was created to do. A service those of my kind provide for free.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
And a service that people don't want or need...

voice

Well, they certainly don't want it. What mortal wants to die?

But it is necessary. The Bureau is always short-staffed since so few of us actually exist. Terrible, really, what with how many things need to die in order to maintain balance in the world.

An "angel of death" of some kind, hmm? Interesting.

I'm still young, so I have a ways to go, I believe.

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Nfu, angel. He just sort of laughs a bit before speaking.]

That's what the young all think.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
What's that supposed to mean? There's no reason for me to die, especially in this place.

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen people die from the age of just being born to almost 100 years old. Mortals never know when Death shall approach their door; and there is often no reason other than the fact that Death comes when Death and God wills it.

A healthy fear for your life shall help you prolong the inevitable, but if you insist upon torturing me, I could also give you a nice little time and date stamp right on your impish little forehead.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, if people get murdered or die from other unnatural causes.

Torturing you? You haven't seen anything yet. There are those far worse than myself. Why not "sing" Aku and Yuber to their "eternal slumber" as you put it?

If it is their Time, then I will reap them just as I've reaped others. I don't distinguish much when it comes to my work - even if it's unfortunate when the dying are good men.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see that. You seem to want to reap me for personal reasons.

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but see? That is where I am bound by our Laws not to lift a finger.

Only those slated to die may perish by my hand. At least, that is how it was when I was in my world.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I see... "But this isn't your world, so you're free to do as you please," right?

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said any such thing. God's Law is Law wherever I am.

Besides, Will would reap my head if he found out I went off the List.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
W-Will??

[The name pings him because one of his closest friends back home is named Will...]

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[And that change in Jay's voice has pinged Grell, too.]

Yes. Will. I see you know of him.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait..."Will" who? We must be speaking of different people...

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Will is my supervisor. Perhaps we are. Such a shame. William is a lovely man - if a bit...stiff sometimes.

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. The man I speak of is Will Raynard. How about you?

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
William T. Spears. He gets moody if you forget that "T." And he won't even tell me what it stands for. [SIGH]

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
That's interesting...

[But pointless. Jay lets out a relieved sigh. Thank this "God" that they weren't talking about the same person...]

voice

[identity profile] erythrophilia.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
So~ This Will Raynard of yours... A bit panicked that I might know him, hm?

voice

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...You don't know him, and that's all that matters.
