[Voice Post] Looking Ahead...

This cold weather gives this place a gloomy atmosphere. A lot of people have been here for a year, even two years. And it's just the beginning for me. I can't say I'm looking forward to being somebody's lab rat for two years. I certainly don't intend to be stuck here that long.

But right now, there's nothing I can do except bide my time.

That amusement park appearing and disappearing overnight...that thing that attacked me...I wonder what else I have to look forward to?

I'm Terra, and I have been here a little over two months. If you don't mind stopping by the barracks, I can share what I know in person.

[Jay closes his journal and carries it over to the barracks to meet Terra.]

Terra? I'm here.

[Terra's inspecting the weapons idly, but she perks up when hearing another voice and turns. She nods.]

Hello. There is information you ought to see...but we've been asked not to share it over the usual channels, since the Malnosso can presumably find it there no matter how secure we think it is. That's why I asked you here, instead. We need to keep this information safe, so please don't spread it over the network.

Understood. I'm an information dealer, so gathering information is my job, and I know how to handle it. I'll be sure to guard whatever information I find.

[She nods and opens her journal, eventually stopping at a certain page (http://community.livejournal.com/lucetilocked/2356.html), then shows it to him.]

This is a locked transmission under a secure system and filtered to all residents. It's fairly up to date, as far as I know.

[Jay takes a few moments to study the information, pondering it very carefully.]

I see... Well, this certainly changes everything...my whole outlook on the situation. So the Malnosso didn't exactly bring us to this world...they just chose which of us to stick inside this barrier, which apparently protects us from the Third Party out there?

That's right. I wasn't here for the invasion, but a couple of my friends were involved. The information there reflects what they have told me.

I see. Well, thank you very much for sharing it with me.

Now I'm curious...about this Kefka person you mentioned earlier. What is he like?

[This is a topic with which she's sadly more experience and it shows in her tone.]

Kefka is cruel, devoid of conscience. People are just things to him, to be used and discarded at his whim. Experiments have granted him power but stripped him of his sanity...and I'm not sure whether he was the nicest of people to begin with. He's very intelligent and resourceful, and enjoys manipulating others to his ends.

Aside from making illusions to appear as other people, he has a vast variety of magic at his fingertips. The only possible weakness is that he's not a physical fighter, but if he's wounded, he'll just leave--teleport away or run. However, with the power he's likely to have absorbed by his point in time, he might not see the need to run anymore. I know he will focus on me and my friends again, but anyone in his way is likely to get his attention as well.

[Jay's eyes widen as the described characteristics are all too familiar to him. It sounded too similar to someone he knew...the man who raised him, used him, and abused him.]

That's...a frightening thought. Those are the kind of people that frighten me the most...

Me, too. You can't reason with him, can't negotiate, can't...anything. He just won't stop until he gets what he wants, which is the destruction of everything. Even if he can be killed here, he might just come back...as I did.

Yeah...what can we do with people like these? It's bad enough with the Malnosso out there. I'll...I'll let you know if I see him.

So if you were killed...did you get some kind of Death Penalty?

...yes. They took away some of my magic. It's better than being blind or losing all my memories, but it could still make a difference when I meet Kefka again.

Hmm...yes, I would have to agree. So Kefka is still powerful despite our abilities being suppressed in this world?

Oh, yes. I can't pinpoint exactly what point in time he's from, but I'm positive it's after he absorbed the power of the statues--three goddesses of magic. Even with his abilities dampened, he probably still has a lot of power at his fingertips--more than what he's been showing, so far. And he's very magic-resistant, too.

I see. I'll just have to take advantage of his physical weakness then. Most of my attacks are physical, though I haven't tried to find out how this world affects my elemental power.

[And Jay's elemental attacks weren't very powerful to begin with...]

Maybe you should? We're here at the barracks and there's dummies to practice against. Whether you face Kefka or not, knowing the strength of your power can only help you.

[She seems about to say something else, but then subsides. It's up to him.]

Indeed. I'd better learn my limits now before I bite off more than I can chew.

[He faces one of the dummies, pulling out his dagger. He flings the dagger at the dummy, causing a small explosion upon impact. Of course, the explosion is relatively smaller than normal.]

Hmm...that's certainly weaker than before, but hopefully it should still suffice.

[She watches with great interest.]

You imbue the dagger with magic, or is it a spell you can only set off after it's thrown?

It's not really magic. It's a special power in my world called eres.

'Eres'...is that common, in your world?

It's fairly common. Not everyone can use it, but it's gradually becoming more common.

I see...that sounds a little like my world. Magic is pretty rare, but it's making a comeback. What determines who can use it? Is it just aptitude or something else?

Hmm...the most common belief is that Nerifes chooses whom to bless with this power. Or it may also be hereditary. It's one of the many mysteries in my world.

I see...well, whatever the source, at least you have some means to defend yourself here. I wish it wasn't necessary, but I doubt Kefka and others like him are just going to go away.
