[Voice/Action] Back from Space

[Jay returns from the draft and once again gives his public opinion.]

...What a mess. It looks like the Malnosso had some fun while we were gone. What a perfect way to clear out the village for a manhunt, to send half of the population on a draft. They would pull something like this at the most...convenient time.

[Of course "convenient" is drenched with sarcasm, because it was only convenient for the Malnosso.]

So these are the terrible consequences we were promised? Just a little bad weather? Somehow I expected more from them. I suppose I'd better get busy and find out how the aforementioned manhunt went.

As for the draft, it went well, as usual. Though it does feel good to get out of that space suit...

[And then he'll go out and explore the damage around the village.]

I see. Those are certainly new. Combine the different abilities of all the people here, and they would be a formidable force.

[The weapon sounds curious.] ...A "lightsaber?"

So he will return...otherwise, our efforts would have gone to waste.

[Luke waves his hand, and from his belt flies a small cylinder, drifting into Jay's hand.]

That is a lightsaber. Please, don't point either end at your face. The button to activate it is rather sensitive.

And...Catherine seemed certain that he'd return. And that he'd be alright when he did.

[Jay studies it curiously, also noting the telekinesis that was used to send it to him. Respect points have increased.]

So you can use telekinesis as well. Very interesting.

[Taking care not to point the ends at his face, Jay rotates the cylinder in his hand. His thumb eventually reaches the button, and the blade suddenly flared out from the top. The sudden activation startles him, but fortunately, he manages to keep it steady. He brings the blade horizontally in front of his face, examining it.]

I see. I've seen a blade similar in my world, although the blade itself isn't stored like this.

[He carefully presses the button again, deactivating the lightsaber, and then holds it out in front of him to give it back.]

So when Catherine returns, I assume he'll be younger? Maybe then he'll be able to think straight.

[Luke nods]

The Force...has a very wide variety of gifts. Telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, and augmenting my body are some of the powers I'm more skilled at.

[and he shakes his head]

I certainly hope so. He was positively ancient, I've only ever met one sentient being that looked that old, and Master Yoda was an alien. He did offer us one favor, as well. He's going to give us a way to fight off kidnapping Droids.

The Force? It feels good to have abilities like that, does it not? It certainly sounds useful.

[But he actually likes the sound of Catherine's favor, but he's still not too optimistic.]

A way to fight off the kidnapping Droids? That's something we definitely need. Let's hope he can get it right. He's been famous for his...mistakes ever since he appeared.

Its certainly nice, yes. Its...a connection, to all things. An energy field given off by life forms.

[Luke shrugs]

He felt sincere. If he can get it done, it would be wonderful. I trust that he'll at least make the attempt.

[Okay, that sounds kind of creepy when it puts it that way.]

I suppose his efforts seem genuine enough. I suppose I just fear that his lack of competence could cause some serious damage. It's already caused plenty of humiliation in the past.

It has, I remember the anchoring debacle. We'll see what comes of it.

[Luke starts to help load up the cart]

How did your mission go?

There's been worse, actually. A few years ago, he had created a portal, and promised that it would send us home. However, anyone who stepped into it found themselves transported to random locations within the enclosure, unable to write, and only able to make animal sounds. Afterwards, Catherine appeared to us for the first time, and he seemed so surprised that the portal didn't work.

[At the next inquiry, Jay moves over to pick up some more branches.]

The draft went well. Not much to report from my perspective.

[The little thing about getting beat up and rescued by Vincent, he won't get into that.]

Boy, that sounds unfortunate, if somewhat amusing. At least it wasn't dangerous.

[Luke shrugs]

I hear the General was involved?

Amusing in some ways. There are always people who would take advantage of the humiliation of others.

[Himself included, sometimes.]

Yes, I heard the General showed up again as well. I didn't run into him, though. We should keep an eye on our journals for a locked transmission. They'll usually inform the population of the major details of the battle.

There are, but it could've always been worse.

I had planned on checking for that, more information is always good. Its the only real way we have to gain the upper hand at all.

Oh, the optimistic types...

[They say the same things over and over...]

Yes, information is one of the major keys to winning any battle. But in a situation like this, even if we had the information, there's also the problem of trying to get out of this barrier of our own accord.

[The optimistic, and those with the strength to make it happen]

Well, who knows what we'll learn. In my experience with war, its better to worry less about the endgame, and focus more on what we're capable of at the moment. Escape isn't likely anytime soon.
