[Voice] No Excuses

Well, I'm sure many of you are as disappointed as I am that this last draft turned out to be, to put it mildly, an utter disaster. Yes, I agree that the Malnosso are idiots for sending noncombatants into the field, and even more so with the abnormal shift effects. But that's not the point.

The point is that there's no reason to complain about all of this. The Malnosso won't listen, and they'll continue to draft us, whether we can fight or not. Knowing this, we cannot afford to let our guard down even for a second. People have been offering classes for learning how to fight, so you noncombatants should take advantage of them if you value your lives. We know what the Third Party has in store for us. We know that these drafts have been happening for over a year now, and we know that anyone can be drafted at any given time without warning. I would strongly suggest that people start preparing now for the next draft. There's really no excuse for being unprepared at this point.

[He sounds harsh, but he's really trying to be helpful.]

You're over simplifying this. You can't expect everyone here to be able to fight and defend themselves just because they're learning. And even if you could, this "draft" happened only a few weeks after some people arrived; those people didn't even have that chance to learn. They have every right to complain, even if no-one is listening.

Sure, they can complain, but I'm just saying it's pointless. And I do hope people are at least educating the New Feathers about the drafts when they arrive.

Maybe they are, but it doesn't really make it any easier to grasp right away. Besides, are you really asking people to just accept this?

[Voice]

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it really make a difference whether we accept it or not? This is the way it is, whether we like it, or accept it, or not.

[Voice]

[identity profile] todistantskies.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't have to be, though. There's no reason to become complacent; it makes people lazy.

[Voice]

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
And those are the only other people who don't complain...

[Voice]

[identity profile] todistantskies.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Is that so. [ Not sounding so convinced here. ]

[Voice]

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Some people have become happy here, not even trying to find a way out of here.

[And he's certainly not happy about that.]

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I do think it would be a good idea for everyone to learn some self-defense at the very least, but complaining is warranted too. They're not exactly treating us fairly.

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Since when is life fair?

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
So you've never complained once in your life?

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I only tell the truth of the matter.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)

Not even a little "oh man, it's hot"?

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
What would be the point of that? If you're hot, go back indoors.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't help much when you're in the desert.

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Then it's all over for you.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's kinda fatalistic, don't you think?

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. But it's still the truth.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)

Sheesh. Remind me not to go to you for any pep talks.

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[But his pep talks are the best, even if they are a bit morbid at times.]

What would you expect from a pep talk?

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Funny, that's what he was saying, albeit in a morbid way.]

Of course, but people are too busy complaining to really try.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)

Yeah, but they're not gonna listen to you if you're lecturing them! You have to encourage them with more... I dunno, empathy?

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
There's no need for mincing words. The Third Party won't show us any mercy, so there's no need to pamper each other with pillow talk.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
People would be more willing to listen, is all I'm saying. That's why leaders tend to be... you know. A certain way.

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Albert Silverberg doesn't talk nonsense either, and people listen to him just fine.

[identity profile] realityanchor.livejournal.com 2011-06-14 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Albert Silverberg... I've heard of him, but I've never met him.

Well I think it's more of the fact that it seems like just about ANYONE can be sent on the draft. And depending on the situation, sometimes training just isn't going to cut it.

Children or people who are disabled in someway are still not going to be as effective in a war against people who are even giving the Malnosso trouble. War is no place for amateurs either. It's better to have a non-combatant than someone who has barely trained with a gun, for example. That's just asking for accidental friendly fire.

[Voice]

[identity profile] unseenspy.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Then put the amateurs in the rear. Let them fight as a last resort.

[Voice]

[identity profile] whydidisaverick.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
If something is able to get past the first resort than the last resort of amateurs is going to be slaughtered.

And that's the problem with this whole thing. You can say someone should train, but it could take years to be good enough. Most people don't have that much time. You say amateurs should take up the rear. If they die, their friends and family are going to want to know why were people who could barely fight not treated like a non-combatant. Thus more complaining.

It's not a win-win either way. That's why everyone is upset. And they'll keep complaining regardless, no matter the method we try to implement. [He doesn't like the complaining much either. Of course he can actually FIGHT if he needs to.]

Years, perhaps. But the skill can be improved more quickly with actual experience. So I would recommend the Battle Dome for that.
